Why Should You Get Involved

It's true what they say about six degrees of separation. After attending just one Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) meeting, the connections I've made have proven to be invaluable. The meetings and seminars provide an opportunity to network with other professionals, and these connections lead to more connections, and so on. I've been able to brainstorm with other businesses, as well as give and share advice and referrals. I'm glad that a Chamber member recommended that I get involved with the organization.

So far, I've attended the social media series with Trish White, Senior Business Advisor for Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network. These seminars have demonstrated how organizations can leverage social media to engage customers, build relationships and market its own business.

The seminars have given me practical, real-time information that I can apply right now. In fact, one of the reasons I'm writing this post is because blogging is a way for organizations like NVCC to provide fresh, relevant content to its customer base and to improve its search engine optimization (SEO).

As a writer and communications professional, I build my consulting business through referrals. As a job seeker, I've had the opportunity to network with people who may know about companies that need an in-house copywriter.

Volunteering for the NVCC has given me an insider's view of all the services, programs and benefits that it offers. Members can take advantage of discounts on health insurance benefits, free business advice, and more. Plus, there are member-to-member discounts on everything from restaurants to financial planning.

Put simply, joining the Chamber of Commerce is a good business strategy. Consumers are more likely to patronize a business that is well-known and well-respected in the community. To your customers, a Chamber of Commerce membership means that your company uses good business practices, is reputable, and cares about the community. A recent study showed that when companies are highly involved in its local chamber, consumers are 10% more likely to think that its products stack up better against its competition.

Whether it is educational seminars, networking luncheons, or social event like the upcoming Trivia Night, the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce is an excellent way to develop relationships within the business community. Members know that the best way to get to communicate their message and to develop more business is through networking, and the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce is the first place to begin.
