Giving Thanks and Giving Back

Each year the Chamber has the privilege to honor those businesses and individuals whose contributions to the community around them deserve recognition. Our Annual Meeting (January 22nd) is where we present 4 awards to such honorees – Large and Small Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Business Person of the Year. There are countless examples of businesses contributing time, volunteer support, financial assistance, sponsorship and in-kind resources to local non-profit organizations or other causes that align with their mission. Certainly you are aware of some of these businesses. I encourage you to help us recognize these folks by nominating them for one of our awards. You can access the nomination form here.
It is also heartening to consider the contributions that the Chamber itself has made throughout the year, thanks to the support of our members. Our Corporate Spelling Bee recently raised funds that allowed us to donate $1,000 to the Neponset Valley Leadership Institute which provides leadership experiences for area high schoolers. This summer our annual Golf Outing raised public awareness and $1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. Flavors of the Neponset Valley is one of our most popular events where local restaurants show their stuff. This year it also provided needed support to HESSCO Elder Service’s Meals on Wheels program.
Our support is not always financial. In the past we have collected food for local food pantries. The Attorney Alliance coordinated a clothing drive that collected a truckload of business attire for those re-entering the workforce. Next week we will have our Annual Holiday Kickoff After Hours at Jasper White’s Summer Shack. Once again we are asking members to bring an unwrapped toy for Toy’s for Tots. What a great way to combine a fun night with a good cause. Please make plans to join us.
Additionally, many members of the Chamber have built up relationships with member non-profit organizations through our networking activities. For the volunteers it’s an opportunity to give back to causes that are meaningful to them, that are local and that they trust. For the non-profits it’s an effective way to tap into a volunteer base, raise awareness and access new resources.
The Chamber is thankful for the opportunity to bring businesses and non-profits together, to support local non-profits and to recognize those who do so much for our communities. We could do none of this without your support.
