Chamber Promotes “Shop Small” Campaign in Norwood

Chamber Promotes “Shop Small” Campaign in Norwood

The Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that it has signed on as a “Neighborhood Champion” in support of Norwood Center merchants that are rallying together this year to bring a day-long shopping event to their customers. Small Business Saturday is a national movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the United States. Special sales, discounts, refreshments, live music and free items such as reusable shopping bags will be available all day to shoppers who make the trip to Norwood Center on November 29th. Additionally, those who visit at least three locations will be entered into a raffle to win American Express Gift Certificates and special items donated by the merchants.

As a Neighborhood Champion, the Chamber has access to a multitude of marketing materials supplied by American Express, including gift bags, balloons, signs, banners and more. These items will be distributed to merchants throughout Norwood Center. We have also worked with Norwood Public Access to produce a “shop local” video featuring Norwood Center merchants in order to promote the big day. Publicity for the day will be driven by a social media campaign. A Facebook has been created and can be accessed here. The Twitter hashtag for the day is #SBSNorwoodMA.

With support from Norwood Bank, the NVCC has been working with downtown businesses over the last few weeks busily preparing for Small Business Saturday. For these businesses , Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to thank their loyal supporters and fellow community members who keep them in business. All businesses in Norwood Center are welcome to participate in the promotion and several Chamber members have signed on including Charles River Running, Lewis’, Babel’s Paint and Decorating, Victoria’s Café and Napper Tandy’s.

Not only can shoppers take advantage of discounts from their local businesses, but for the fifth year in a row, American Express is offering card members the opportunity to get a $10 statement credit when they enroll their eligible American Express Card and then use the card to spend $10 or more on a single in-store transaction at a qualifying small business location on Small Business Saturday. The credit can be used three times for a savings of $30. Enrollment is limited and opens on November 16th on http://www.ShopSmall.com.

Local consumers play a key part in helping small businesses thrive. By shopping or dining at small businesses throughout the year, they’re showing their support for all the small businesses in Norwood Center and reinvesting in the community they call home. Through this initiative, the Chamber is encouraging Norwood residents to go shopping or dining at local small businesses on November 29th and to tell others to be a part of the movement. Anything they can do helps to give small businesses the support they need to keep creating jobs, powering the economy and invigorating Norwood Center.

It is hoped that a successful Small Business Saturday in Norwood can be replicated in other Neponset Valley communities next year.
