Chamber Updates and Economic Development

Spring brings forth new growth and energy and that is especially true at the Chamber. Please note that our annual Membership Campaign will be taking place during the month of June this year. The more members who participate, the more successful the campaign. Please consider helping us grow – with each new member that you refer to us comes $25 Chamber Dollars to you!  If the Chamber has helped your business to grow, reach out and share that message with others and urge them to join NVCC.  Brian McGillicuddy would be delighted to have you be a part of the exciting (and FUN) campaign he is planning. Just give him a call (or a referral) at 781-769-1126 x 205.

And, speaking of the energy and activity of spring - I am proud to report to you some of the many and varied offerings of the Chamber in the upcoming months: from social to educational to business development – Mark your calendars – you won’t want to miss these events!  Click this link (and check out www.nvcc.com) to find more information regarding the Spring Speakers Series, special free educational seminars and the Golf Tournament (Early Bird Registration discount by May 15th).

  • Our Spring Speakers’ Series began with a wonderful presentation by Rich Meelia, President/CEO of Covidien.  Rich spoke to a sold out audience and his message was very well received by those in attendance.  I urge you to register early for our next two events: May 19th at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood-- 7:30-9:00 am Breakfast with Congressman Stephen Lynch (and all the other area legislators have also been invited to attend) and June 3rd at Walpole Country Club -- 7:30-9:00 am breakfast with Paul Leech, CEO of Organogenesis and Geoff MacKay, CAO or Dunkin Brands presenting. Please see www.nvcc.com for more  information and to register online.
  • The following educational seminars will be taking place:
  • June 5th: HR Council and the Bulfinch Group present: New Supplemental Disability Insurance & Protection for retirement Contributions – 7:45-9:00 am at the Chamber; FREE and open to the public
  • June 17th: MSBDC (MA Small Business Development Center) – 7:45-9:00 am at the Chamber – FREE and open to the public – an overview of the many free services they provide to companies with less than 500 employees – strategic planning, marketing, financial planning, grants, etc. Counselors are available at the Chamber office.
  • June 19th: Eldercare Alliance Seminar: How Do I Finance Elder Care? FREE and open to the public. Because of the large turnout for the last seminar, this event will be held at Gray, Gray & Gray in Westwood from 7:30-9:00 am.
  • And, the 23rd Annual Golf Tournament will be taking place on August 4th at the Foxborough Country Club – Please note that there is an Early Bird Registration discount if you register by May 15th.  This is going to be a terrific afternoon of golf with lunch and dinner included and we need both golfers and non-golfers to participate to make this a successful event.  Please join us for the fun: we would love to have a full field (144 golfers)! And we always need more volunteers on our committee or the day of the event – please contact Sue McQuaid or Brian McGillicuddy if you would be willing to volunteer. Registration information is on the website.
  • Our Networking opportunities continue to foster new business contacts – check our monthly calendars online for morning, noon, REN group and Business After Hours (BAH) meetings.

Economic Development

Last month I provided you with a brief update regarding some of the major projects in the region.  I am happy to report that the Task Forces overseeing the implementation of the I93/I95 Interchange Project and the Rt. 1/Rt. 95 Corridor Study have been formed and are having their first meetings in May.  I will be representing the Chamber on both of these committees and will report back to our membership the progress occurring on  these important regional transportation projects.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me directly at 781-769-1126, x 202.

It is a pleasure to see so many Chamber members supporting the wide variety of offerings we have made available to you.  We welcome your ideas for future programs and encourage you to participate in as many ways as possible with the Chamber.  Together, we will continue to build and enhance the Neponset Valley region.  Best wishes for a wonderful Spring!
