Running with Scissors

For many years, one of the more enjoyable services offered by the Chamber is Ribbon Cutting ceremonies. Whether a business has newly opened, completed a renovation or added additional space (or really any made up reason will do), the Chamber can be summoned to help commemorate the occasion with a Ribbon Cutting. We bring our big shiny (and sharp!) scissors and ribbon to the event. We invite Chamber members, board members and our Ambassadors as well as local officials from whatever community we happen to be in.

The events are a fun way to celebrate a member’s success and an inexpensive opportunity to gain local exposure. Each business adds their own special touches to their Ribbon Cutting by including an open house, site tours, food and drink or even games and activities for families and children in some instances. The creative folks at Symphony of Light in Dedham even had the Dedham High School marching band last year!

This year has been a particularly busy one for Ribbon Cuttings, which to me is a sign of an improved economy. New businesses are opening and existing businesses are expanding. Just yesterday, we cut the ribbon at BrightView Canton Independent and Assisted Living. Their beautiful new facility is open and filling up quickly. Later this month we will be at 18 l 8 Fine Men’s Salon which recently opened at University Station in Westwood. Then on September 26th we will be taking our scissors to Fantastic Sams at their new location in Walpole. Yes, the irony of bringing scissors to hair salons is not lost on me.

There is one other ribbon that we will cut in September and that, happily, is our own. Now that we have settled in to our new space at 520 Providence Highway in Norwood, we are ready to invite you to come see us. The Chamber will host an open house/ribbon cutting on Friday, September 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. We will cut the ribbon at 4:00 pm. All members are welcome to stop by and see the space, say hello and grab a snack and a drink as we celebrate our new location.

The office features a conference room which can accommodate up to 25 for meetings and presentations as well as a smaller meeting room for groups up to 10. These rooms are used by our committee and Referral Exchange Networks (REN) on a regular basis. They are also available to Chamber members who may have occasional off-site meeting needs.

Please plan to join us on September 23rd as we celebrate the next phase of our 122 years of serving local business.
