The 113th Annual Meeting of the
Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce will take place on
January 17, 2008 at the Four Points by
Sheraton Norwood. Registration and
breakfast will be at 7:30AM, and the program will
begin at 8:00AM. We are thrilled
that Governor Deval Patrick will be joining
us, and we hope you will take this opportunity to hear
his vision for Massachusetts and the Neponset
Valley region in particular.
We
will also welcome our incoming Chairman of the Board,
Albert A. DeNapoli,
Esq. (Tarlow Breed Hart
& Rodgers, PC, Boston), and
thank our outgoing Chair, Katherine
Touafek (School to Careers Partnership,
Canton) for her hard work and dedication
for the past year.
We
wish to honor several outgoing members of the NVCC board
of directors that will be recognized that
day for their years of unselfish work on our
behalf. They share a special bond, as they have not only
tirelessly served as NVCC board members for at least six
years, but have also served as past Chairs (year served
as Chair indicated): special thanks to
Nancy Wluka (1999-2000) (Wluka Real Estate

From the
President's
Corner:
Happy New Year! May 2008 be a
year of good health and much fulfillment for each of
you. I would like to highlight three offerings during
January which I hope will generate great interest
amongst our membership: the 113th Annual
Meeting featuring Governor Deval
Patrick, a second QuickBooks seminar, and the
January Business After Hours at the League School in
Walpole.
(1)
Annual Meeting: please see the invitation in
the newsletter and the postcard sent directly to you for
all the details.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for NVCC to
collectively highlight the importance of this region to
the Governor, hear the Governor's vision for the future
and engage in a Q&A session. Pre-paid registration
is required for this event and we hope to
have a huge turnout for this very special
meeting.
(2)
A
second QuickBooks
seminar is being offered on Monday, January
14th from 8:30-10:30 at the Chamber. The
first seminar in August was a great success and we are
confident that this second seminar will be of similar
value to our members. Our thanks to the folks at G.T. Reilly
for providing this service. Please see the
notice in this newsletter regarding pre-registration for
this class.
(3)
Our
December Business After Hours at Finz was a
great success with over 80 people attending and I would
encourage you to attend our January BAH at the League School
on Rt. 1 in Walpole. I'm sure many of you may
have driven by this building and wondered, "What is the League
School?" - it's a terrific school for children along
the autism spectrum. Join us on Jan.
31st from 5:30-7:30
pm to
learn more about autism and have a unique chance to
learn how you, someone you know, and/or your company
might benefit from the talents and offerings of the
students at the school. The school has both academic and
vocational components - come meet fellow NVCC members
and learn more. Sign up now!
As always, my sincere thanks for
your continued support of the Chamber. I look forward
to seeing many members at these very special
events. If
you have any questions or suggestions, never hesitate to
contact me at 781-769-1126, x202.

Ribbon Cutting @Liberty Tax
Service |
The Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce will
celebrate a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Liberty
Tax Service at 10:00AM on
Thursday, January 10, 2008, at
their newest location at the Hannaford Shopping Plaza,
442 Walpole Street, in Norwood. Members of the NVCC
Ambassadors Group will be in attendance, and the event
is free and open to the public. For details, please
contact Dennis Flynn at 508-533-7900. Dennis has
provided this useful tax update:
AMT
Tax Relief: Tax relief is in sight to over 20
million Americans who faced a sudden tax hike because
they would have qualified for the Alternative Minimum
Tax when filing their 2007 tax return. Currently, four
million Americans pay the AMT. The number would
have soared to over 20 million taxpayers who would have
qualified had tax relief not been addressed by
Congress.
However, e-filing delays may
now be a reality, according to Liberty Tax
Service.
President Bush is expected to sign the Temporary
Tax Relief Act of 2007 that extends the current AMT
thresholds with a temporary one year "patch."
Because this
legislation comes so late in the year, e-filing and
paper processing of tax returns for everyone may not
start until February. Some IRS
instruction manuals are now outdated because the IRS
publication deadline has passed. IRS computers
must be reprogrammed, and twelve IRS forms are affected
by the AMT including those for child and dependent care
credits. The resulting delay
could be up to seven weeks. The result: a
possible postponement of tax refunds for 15 million
taxpayers, including lower and middle class taxpayers
who normally file for early refunds.
"Our tax
offices are ready to jump-start your return free of
charge using your W-2 and tax documentation so your
return can be filed as soon as the IRS starts processing
returns," said John Hewitt, CEO and Founder of Liberty
Tax Service.
