President's Message

From the President:  Important Updates!

Sue McQuaid

First and foremost, THANK YOU to all who attended our recent Annual Meeting! There was a wonderful spirit in the room and I truly appreciated your great support of the Chamber - let's keep the momentum going for 2008! For those who missed the event, we do have a CD created by Norwood Public Access TV which you may borrow and the event is also showing on Norwood Cable and Norwood Comcast channels.

A couple of quick, but very important notes:

  • New NVCC policies  take effect as of 2/1/08 - please see the attachment here and the special notice sent to you on 2/1/08
  • The Chamber is partnering with the ESOL classes (which meet at our location) in a Food Drive during February and March to support the Norwood Ecumenical Food Pantry. Donations are often lean during these months and the Food Pantry serves a large number of families on a continuous basis - your donations of non-perishable goods may be left at the Chamber office at any time.
  • February Networking: Noon Networking at SKY (Feb. 12th) and BAH at FINZ on Feb. 28th(it's a Leap Year Party!)
  • The Flavors of Neponset Valley is set for March 27th - Not to be Missed!
  • REN groups have openings - please contact Brian McGillicuddy if you are looking to be a part of one of our great REN groups
  • Alliances are forming and meeting - these are industry-specific and would love your participation: currently we have an Eldercare Alliance, Attorney Alliance, Young Professionals Alliance, Human Resource Council, Economic Development Committee and an Events Alliance( just getting back on track).
  • Congratulations to member Mark Alio - he has been appointed the permanent Director of the MA Small Business Development Center - Mark will continue to serve the NVCC region - his individual consultations are free to all Chamber members and appointments may be made through the Chamber office.
  • The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office has many helpful brochures available on their website related to workplace and personal employee issues. Check out the section entitled Publications on their website for great information and helpful local resources. www.norfolkda.com
  • Keep watch for an exciting announcement regarding an NVCC Summer Kick-Off event!

OSHA Seminar @NVCC

We are pleased to offer this valuable seminar:

OSHA

"OSHA Adds Value"

Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Presented by

Timothy S. Irving, ARM, CSP

Compliance Assistance Specialist

Thursday, February 7, 8:00-9:00am

Chamber Office

No charge

Since its creation 37 years ago, numerous myths and misconceptions have existed about this federal agency charged with enforcing the country's health and safety laws.   Enforcement is the top priority, although recent years have seen an increase in the educational outreach and cooperative programs emphasized in an attempt to reduce accidents, injury and death in the American workplace.  The presentation will cover the most common misunderstandings the general public has about OSHA, review employers rights and responsibilities, and will provide a current update on the agency's activities in New England.

Also participating in the Seminar will be management Attorney Richard D. Wayne of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP in Boston, MA.  Attorney Wayne is a well-known OSHA practitioner representing employers and he has participated in numerous Seminars with OSHA representatives.
