2. Our Spring Speakers Series is about to begin with the first speaker being Rich Meelia, President and CEO of the $10 billion international company Covidien. Rich is a resident of Walpole and Covidien is located in Mansfield. Rich will be the speaker at our luncheon on Monday, April 28th from 11:30-1:00 at the Hampton Inn on Rt. 1 in Norwood. Please see nvcc.com for more details about this and our May and June breakfast presentations.

3. The NVCC Golf Tournament is slated for Monday, August 4th at Foxborough Country Club- 12:15 Shotgun start - watch for detailed information later this week. Special Early Bird registration fee if you sign up by May 15th.

4. Economic development update:

  • IMPORTANT NEWS: the Notice to Proceed with the Corridor Study for Rt. 1 and Rt. 95 from Dedham to the Rhode Island Border has been signed! The Chamber initiated and authored this proposed $475,000 - 18-month study and it will begin shortly. MA Hwy and VHB Engineers will be taking the lead and the Executive Office of Transportation will fund the project.  I will keep you updated as to the progress and opportunities for public input.
  • MSBDC (MA Small Business Development Center): I am excited to report that we will be expanding our relationship with the MSBDC in the months ahead. MSBDC defines "small" as any company with less than 500 employees. There will be more information about the vast array of services they provide (FREE of charge) in the near future. Be on the watch for MSBDC in your email during the coming month.
  • Legacy Place in Dedham will be breaking ground in April
  • The 128 Add-a-Lane Project is progressing on schedule
  • The Interchange Project at I93/I95 has been approved to move forward with final design and environmental work being completed during the next two years. NVCC and local municipal leaders will sit on the Task Force overseeing this project.
  • Patriot Place is proceeding on schedule with 2 new stores planning to open in April: Staples and Off-Broadway Shoes.
  • The Walpole Mall has begun its 75,000 sq foot expansion with a variety of retail, restaurants and a bank being planned.  LA Fitness will be the new large anchor for this development.
  • Mansfield Crossing is up and running at the corner of 140/I495.
  • Sharon Commons is still pursuing their permitting and plans for a mixed use development.
  • Westwood Station has begun demolition activities and is still working with area towns over traffic concerns. A ground-breaking date has not been set at this time.
  • During the next few months I will continue to support and represent our municipalities as the state determines the priority projects for the TIP (the state's Transportation Improvement Projects list). This process takes place from April through August with a public comment period throughout the month of July.  I will keep you informed as to which area projects make this list.

As you can see, there is a great deal happening throughout the Neponset Valley and I will continue to provide important information and support services to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at 781-769-1126 x 202.  Best wishes for a terrific Spring!
